How to Prepare for a Newborn Photo Session

Newborn photography preparation

The ideal time for newborn portraits is within the first 5–14 days after birth, when babies are naturally sleepy and curly. It’s best to book your session during pregnancy, especially if you are based in Hampstead, Chelsea, Islington, St John’s Wood, or Primrose Hill, as my diary fills quickly. Don’t worry if your baby arrives early or late — I always allow flexibility around due dates.

1. Schedule Your Session Early

Booking early ensures availability and allows you to plan around your baby’s arrival. I recommend contacting me while pregnant to secure your preferred dates.

2. Prepare Your Home

Choose a quiet, warm room with lots of natural light. Remove clutter, tidy the area, and set up a soft blanket or basket for the baby. I bring all the props and equipment, so you don’t need to worry about having professional lighting or cameras.

3. Keep Your Baby Comfortable

Try to feed your baby just before the session so they are calm and sleepy. A well-fed baby will be easier to pose and photograph, and we’ll have plenty of time to capture peaceful, cozy moments.

4. Dress Yourself Comfortably

Wear neutral, solid-colored clothing. Avoid bright patterns or logos that can distract from the baby. Comfortable clothing also helps you feel relaxed and enjoy the session. You can also bring sentimental props such as blankets or toys for meaningful shots.

5. Relax and Enjoy

Most importantly, relax and enjoy the experience. Your calm presence will help your newborn feel safe, resulting in natural, timeless photographs you’ll cherish forever.

By following these tips, your newborn photography session will be smooth, safe, and full of beautiful memories. For more information or to book a session Check availability.
